How the E-Net Internship Experience Works

The E-Net Internship Experience is an internship program that helps you not only find a paid internship gaining experience, but also provides you access to an internship mentor. Your internship mentor will help you land an internship for the summer, develop a portfolio, network with peers and other employers, and help you get the most out of your internship experience.

Judicial Internship

Employer: Office of Court Administration Volunteer program for Hon. Joseph Gerace, JHO

Description: This internship is a great opportunity for a student looking to gain experience in the judicial system or to earn academic credit, but work a flexible schedule. Judge Gerace is willing to work with a student that may need to supplement this unpaid internship with a paying a job. The intern will have the opportunity to:

1. Learn and execute process of analysis to review and draft comments on cases involving challenges to tax assessments on real property owned by various businesses and industries. Outline and evaluate pertinent facts on which challenges to and defense of assessments on real property are based.
2. Organize files in Chambers.
3. Prepare a plan and work schedule, letters to organizations and publicity relating to The People's Law School at Jamestown Community College to educate attendees on laws and regulations the average person would encounter such as Ownership and Rental of Real Property, Elder Law, Wills and Estates, Traffic Violations and Criminal Law, Family Law including Divorce and, Custody, Commercial Law, Labor Law, etc.; attend as many sessions as intern's schedule allows to assist JCC staff and attorney presenters to register attendees, present handouts.
4. Assist in registration, distribution of material, organization of People’s Law School seminars at the college.
5. Assist judge with preparation for Summary Jury Trials in Supreme Court at the Chautauqua County Courthouse.
6. Assist in organization and printing of documents for a Continuing Legal Education courses for attorneys and judges; attend sessions if schedule permits.
7. Provide program assistance to Robert H. Jackson Center Inn of Court.

This internship opportunity also provides extensive networking opportunity with attorneys and others in the court system, and first-hand knowledge of job openings and how the civil service system operates.


Requirements:
1. Computer skills
2. Writing skills
3. Interest in Law
4. Be available for at least two hours on Mondays and Thursdays during the day.
